The harm of nickel content in jewelry to human body
August 14, 2025

Nickel is a common metal component in jewelry, often used in alloy production to enhance the hardness of the jewelry and improve its corrosion resistance. However, nickel may pose various risks to human  health, especially when it comes into contact with the skin, it is prone to cause health problems.

Skin allergy and contact dermatitis are the most significant hazards. Nickel is one of the most common allergens, with approximately 10% to 20% of the population being sensitive to it. Women, due to their higher frequency of wearing jewelry, have a relatively higher risk of allergy.  After coming into contact with nickel-containing jewelry (such as necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, anklets, etc.), redness, papules, itching, and blisters may occur at the contact site. In severe cases, there may be   exudation, scabbing, thickening of the skin, or pigmentation, and the symptoms may recur.

Long-term wearing of nickel-containing jewelry may cause repeated inflammation of the skin at the contact site, which can lead to impaired skin barrier function, increased risk of infection, and even trigger chronic skin diseases such as eczema. Children, people with allergic constitutions, and those who wear metal jewelry for a long time are more susceptible to the effects of nickel. When choosing jewelry, prioritize products labeled "nickel-free", "low-nickel", or made of inert metals such as pure gold, pure silver, and platinum. If skin discomfort occurs after wearing a certain piece of jewelry, stop wearing it immediately and seek medical attention to avoid repeated irritation.

The main hazard of nickel in jewelry is causing skin allergies. Long-term contact may pose potential health risks.

For this reason, Angel Jewelry Company, with the health and well-being of its users in mind, pays close attention to low-nickel or nickel-free operations in every stage of production, from raw material procurement, cutting, welding, polishing, acid washing, assembly to electroplating. The company solemnly promises that all its jewelry can be subject to third-party testing and will provide test certificates.
